Honda’s getting ready for a big comeback in India, and they’re not holding back. The plan? Roll out 10 new cars by 2030. That’s a serious push, and most of the action centers on SUVs. They want to launch seven new SUV models, covering everything from compact to premium, and really cement their place in a market that’s falling hard for bigger, bolder cars. At the same time, they’re not ignoring hybrids and EVs – those are part of the mix too.
Right now, SUVs are where all the excitement is in India. Honda knows it. They’re working on a lineup that stretches from those popular sub-4-metre SUVs (the kind you see everywhere in city traffic) to fancier, globally designed models. Takashi Nakajima – he’s the Executive VP at Honda Cars India – spelled it out: “We plan to launch 10 or more new models by 2030, including seven SUVs. We’re looking at everything from high-volume sellers to premium cars so Honda has something for everyone in India.” So, they’re not just chasing numbers – they want to offer more options, at more price points, for more people.
This SUV push isn’t random. It’s Honda’s way of keeping up with what Indian buyers actually want. The new models will mix international designs with India-specific features – so you get a bit of style, a bit of practicality, and, hopefully, the right price.
One of the most talked-about cars on the way? Honda’s upcoming sub-4-metre SUV. Right now, Indian and Korean brands own that space, but Honda wants back in. Nakajima confirmed they’re building a new compact SUV just for India. This car is supposed to be modern, practical, and a real contender for buyers who want something new in the crowded compact segment.
Honda’s also taking a flexible approach under the hood. They’re not picking just one technology. Instead, they’ll offer petrol (ICE), hybrids, and electric vehicles. The plan is to beef up the hybrid lineup, using global tech but building locally, and, down the line, roll out electric SUVs that blend efficiency with good looks.
By the time 2030 rolls around, Honda wants to be seen as a much stronger, more adaptable brand in India. The goal is simple: they want a full garage – SUVs, hybrids, EVs – that actually matches what Indian drivers are looking for.
