KTM 160 Duke Debuts in India at ₹1.85 Lakh

KTM 160 Duke Launched in India at ₹1.85 Lakh – Most Powerful Bike in the 160cc Segment

The KTM Duke series continues its upward trajectory, recording an impressive 30–35% growth in the last year, even as most middleweight motorcycle segments saw moderate or flat sales. Backed by Bajaj Auto’s strategic partnership with KTM and Triumph, the brand has strengthened its dominance in the performance bike category, offering riders high technology, aggressive styling, and competitive pricing.

KTM 160 Duke – Class-Leading Performance

The all-new KTM 160 Duke is positioned as the most powerful motorcycle in the 160cc segment, powered by a 164.2 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder SOHC engine producing:

  • Power: 19 bhp @ 9,500 rpm
  • Torque: 15.5 Nm @ 7,500 rpm

Carrying KTM’s iconic READY TO RACE DNA, the 160 Duke blends everyday practicality with streetfighter aggression.

Chassis, Suspension, and Braking

Built on KTM’s split trellis frame, the bike features:

  • WP Apex forks with a hollow axle for improved rigidity
  • Bionic light wheels and a lighter hugger tube to reduce unsprung mass
  • Casted pillion step holder and sleek grab rail for comfort and aesthetics
  • Braking setup: 320 mm front disc & 230 mm rear disc
  • A 5-inch LCD display with modern, crisp readouts

Everyday Usability

Despite its sporty nature, the KTM 160 Duke is tuned for urban practicality:

  • Kerb weight: 147 kg for nimble handling
  • Wheelbase: 1,357 mm
  • Ground clearance: 174 mm
  • Seat height: 815 mm for accessible ergonomics
  • Tyres: Tubeless 110/70 R17 (front) & 140/60 R17 (rear)
  • Fuel tank: 10.1 litres for a good balance of compactness and range

Colours, Price, and Availability

The bike is available in Electronic Orange, Atlantic Blue, and Silver Metallic Matte at ₹1,84,998 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Bookings are open both online and at KTM dealerships across India.

Future Possibility – KTM RC 160

Following KTM’s usual strategy of offering both naked streetfighters and faired sportbikes in each engine class, an RC 160 could be the brand’s next launch, giving them a stronger presence in the faired 160cc sports segment.

Rivals and Segment Battle

The KTM 160 Duke will compete directly with:

  • Yamaha MT-15
  • Yamaha R15

Both Yamahas run a 155cc liquid-cooled engine producing 18 bhp and 14.1 Nm, which means KTM offers a +1 bhp and +1.4 Nm advantage on paper. However, Yamaha’s strong reputation for handling and track dynamics means KTM will have to prove its real-world edge.

Verdict

The KTM 160 Duke is a bold new entry into the premium 160cc motorcycle segment, offering class-leading power, high-end hardware, and signature KTM styling at an accessible price point. It’s aimed squarely at young riders and enthusiasts who want more than just a commuter bike. Whether it can challenge Yamaha’s dominance remains to be seen — but one thing is clear: the 160cc battle just got a lot more exciting.
